So far I'm really enjoying the anime. It's doing a pretty good job of being faithful to the manga while presenting the story without doing it in "character perspective sections" and showing the same scenes more than once. The only real change I noticed in terms of characters is the interactions between Himari and Miki. spoiler[There was a bit more snark between them, I felt, in the manga. Either they're trying to make Himari seem even more naive and sweet or planning to diminish Miki's already fairly small role in the story? Time will tell... hmm...] Two episodes in and spoiler[1 volume of manga completed... so if they keep that pace... [looks at the end of volume 6...]oh NO they better not end it THERE! LOL!][/spoiler]

My second favourite series of the season at this point (after, of course, new Spice&Wolf)
I'm getting strong Bloom into you vibes here, but it might be personal bias of comparing every story I read in similar genre (yuri romance) to one of my favourite mangas of all time (another one being mentioned Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon). Even if, it is not helped by leads' designs, especially Himari's, who is very similar to Koito 
I also really like exploration of asexual/aromantic spectrums twese two stories (Bloom, Doughnuts) have and it seems it will be strong point in Whisper Me a Love Song, which I find very promising. My biggest surprise was how fast senpai decided to come out with her own confession. I find it extremely refreshing that anime romances these days are not spending entire seasons with leads trying to confess to each other, but concentrate on many different problems of budding romance and relationships, which I find much more interesting. As anime only watcher (I plan to buy manga soon and read it after season ends) I already feel bad for Aki. We will see how this will pan out. |

I liked the first episode, but episode 2 convinced me that I could really like this show. Like Daerian, I am also getting Bloom into You vibes.

I also disliked that part of episode 1, it was super awkward
Speaking of YagaKimi, I hope this time nobody does that thing where they assume the redhead protagonist's sexual identity, then get angry when reality doesn't match the assumption. |

while i also liked bloom onto you, this feels too familar to citrus which disappointed some. i fear it might end up being another like citrus or even tenten kakumei situation where the anime disapointed some and it would have been better off if it stayed in manga/light novel format! especially considering that last year, mega hits like im in love with the villainess, yuri is my job and especially G Witch more or less set a new standard for the yuri genre! |

I'm only sticking around to episode 4 as I'm curious how bad the animation and production design can get.
Why animate when you can just get as much motion from panning a still image? Don't feel like animating a mouth movement? Fear not with Face Me Not, the patented process wherein we, well, don't show a face. I'm not sure why that was patented... Why differ inner monologues and actual dialogue when you can confuse the audience with what sounds like someone talking to themselves but without moving their lips. Why? That last one just confuses me, it doesn't cost anything to use a filter. Add a little echo, do something, anything so it sounds different. |

This isn't an outstanding production by any means; but most of what you mentioned like still frames and hiding the face/mouth to avoid animating lip flaps are pretty common corner-cutting methods in anime; if nothing else I don't think it's an indication the production's about to fall off a cliff like you seem to be insinuating. Personally I think this show looks fine. Despite the (understandable) concerns about it's relatively unknown studio and staff and the fact it got delayed, it still turned out perfectly okay. Heck from the shows I'm watching this season I'd rank it a bit above A Condition Called Love and Voice Actor Radio production wise and if we're talking Yuri shows in general, which tend to suffer from limited productions; I'd rank it well above But I'm in Love with the Villainess. Which I actually enjoyed bit it was not a looker. |

I'm sorry, but I fail to see similarities to Citrus at all, outside of being yuri romance genre. |

Same here. I was a fan of Citrus, but this one has an entirely different type of approach and vibe within yuri romance. And that's not a bad thing, because while I like trashy romances, sweeter ones like this one are nice, too. Very much like the contrast in both personalities and approaches to love between the leads. Was waffling on this one a bit, but episode 3 convinced me that it's a keeper for the season. I'm just resigned to it not being one of the season's better-animated series. |

Yeah, Citrus has its charms, but Whisper Me a Love Song is definitely lacking in the dubious consent and quasi-incest vibes. They're pretty different in all respects beyond "school girls" and "yuri". The animation is pretty limited, but the show looks nice enough. I'd rather a studio set its sights on something it can reliably achieve animation wise than shoot for the moon and collapse entirely. (Ep3 did somewhat over use those slide-and-fade transitions as a means of taking up a few extra seconds though. They were a fairly blunt instrument and kind jarring due to their frequency) |

Wow, production really melted down this episode. Before animation barely existed but at least the art looked consistently pretty, now we don't even get that anymore.
I tried to check how many animation directors there were since breaking well into the double digits is usually a sign of production issues but what I found was even more surprising: there was just one animation director role. Heck, there was also just one key animator, and just one inbetweener... basically 100% of the animation work was credited not to individuals as is the norm but to just "Studio Shigure". Talk about shady. |

One animator could probably handle a whole episode if they made judicious use of Powerpoint, which might as well have been the case here...

The episode 3 reminded me of reading visual novel more than watching an anime, especially with these specific cuts. Still hyped for the series, I can live with bad animation for good story adapted with good voice acting - these were always more important for me.

I was actually a bit disappointed with Himari not understanding love or never having been in love, because it seems like a bit of a cliche for yuri/lesbian romances in anime and manga?
Granted, in a cisallohet world where love is largely defined as between a boy and a girl, if you're not conscious of the possibility of other forms of love, it is understandable that you would be confused and uncertain in this situation. It's just that I've seen it a lot in yuri manga. |

Using "minimize" as a scene transition.... cheap but not as bad as the cat that meowed without moving its lips.
It's so bad the show made me watch that cymbal crash twice just to make sure I wasn't imagining it was animated. |
